TGJ4M - Test #2 - Photoshop

Test #2 Hands On Portion

1. Open up Photoshop CS5 and start a new document.

2. Make the new document "4 inches wide" x "3 inches high" and 300 dpi.

/2

3. Open up our Class Webpage (http://www.jcarron.com/Site/Courses/PF-Class-TGJ4M.html) and click on the “Unit 2, Test 2 link” (which brings you to this page if you’re not already on it).

4. Right click the LEFT image BELOW and select "Save target as..." and save the image file “TGJ4M-T2-Original.jpg” to your X:\ drive. (MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THE ORIGINAL AND NOT THE THUMBNAIL!!!)

5. Place (or cut and paste) the image file “TGJ4M-T2-Original.jpg” that was saved to your X:\ drive into the blank document (by default it should end up on the second layer).

/2

6. Create a duplicate layer and hide the original layer so that you have a hidden copy of the original image in case you need to start over again. You should now have 3 layers.

/2

7. Use the "background eraser tool" OR a "select/delete" method to remove the blackish background from behind the tiger. Choose an appropriate tolerance so that only the blackish background is erased and not the tiger (you may need to right click the layer and choose rasterize layer before you can erase the background).

/4

8. Next, create a new empty layer (the fourth layer) and use the gradient tool to add a green to yellow gradient fill to it (green on the left and yellow on the right).

/2

9. Now drag this gradient layer underneath the duplicate layer so that it shows through where the blackish background used to be.

/2

10. Next, create another new layer (the fifth layer) for cloning.

/2

11. Use the clone tool and pick an appropriate brush and size to remove the hamster from the photo. Do your best to match/blend the fur of the tiger in and around the cloning area.

/4

12. Now create one final layer (the sixth layer).

/2

13. Use the text tool and add your name in the upper left corner of the photo. The font should be Times New Roman, make it Bold and set the point size to 18 pt. The text color is up to you.

/2

14. Finally add a "drop shadow" and a "bevel and emboss" text effect to your name to finish the changes.

/2

15. Your file should look extremely similar to the finished example on the web page.

/4

16. Save your Photoshop .PSD file to the X:\ drive as “lastname-T2.psd”.
