ASM3O - Test #2 - Photoshop
Test #2 Hands On Portion
**Two marks are awarded for correctly completing each step below**
- Open up Photoshop Elements 7.0 and start a new document.
- Make the new document is "5 inches wide" x "4 inches high" and 300 dpi.
- Open up our Class Webpage (http://www.jcarron.com/Site/Courses/ASM3O/ASM3O-T2.html) and click on the “Unit 2, Test 2 link”.
- Right click the LEFT image BELOW and select "Save target as..." and then save the image file “ASM3O-T2-Original.jpg” to your X:\ drive.
- Place the image file “ASM3O-T2-Original.jpg” that was saved to your X:\ drive into the blank document (by default it should end up on the first layer).
- Create a duplicate layer and hide the original layer so that you have a hidden copy of the original image in case you need to start over again. You should now have 2 layers.
- Use the "background eraser tool" OR a "select/delete" method to remove the black sky above the horizon of the lunar surface. Choose an appropriate tolerance so that only the black sky is erased and not the lunar surface or the antennae.
- Next, create a new empty layer (the third layer) and use the gradient tool to add a yellow to black gradient fill to it (yellow on the left and black on the right).
- Now drag this gradient layer underneath the duplicate layer so that it shows through where the black sky used to be.
- Next, create another new layer (the fourth layer).
- Use the clone tool and pick an appropriate brush and size to remove the American Flag from the photo. Do your best to match/blend the surface of the moon in and around the cloning area.
- Now create one final layer (the fifth layer).
- Use the text tool and add your name in the area where the flag used to be. The font should be Arial, make it Bold and set the point size to 18 pt.
- Finally add the bevel text effect to your name to finish the changes.
- Your file should look extremely similar to the finished example on the web page.
Save your Photoshop .PSD file to the X:\ drive as “lastname-T2.psd”.
